Fluoridation is the addition of fluoride to water for consumption. Fluoride is also used in toothpastes. Fluoride has been used to reduce dental caries/tooth decay, and is a common practice in many countries around the world.

There are opposing views regarding the benefits and adverse effects of fluoride on the body. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland rejected water fluoridation.

Fluoride is likely to cause decreased melatonin production and effect normal pineal function (National Research Council 2006).

According to the fluoridealert.orgt the impact of fluoride on the pineal is not yet fully understood, however, studies have found association with reduced melatonin production (Kunz et al., 1999) as well as impairments in the sleep-wake cycle. (Mahlberg 2009). There may also be an association with accelerated sexual maturationin females (Luke 1997), ie. early puberty in girls.

Researchers (Maitreyee et al, 2018) have concluded that there are the benefits of fluoride ,but the risks are higher. Their recommendation would be to limit fluoride to dentifrices and mouthwashes.

Also to note is that the pineal gland is an endocrine gland that is associated with spirituality and intuition as it is aligned with the Ajna chakra (third eye).
