About me - Soma

My name is Soma. As you can see from the previous pages on my lineage that I come from a strong spiritual background. My maternal great grandmother was the rural local mid-wife, and delivered hundreds of babies including breaches like me.
Umbilical cord around my neck, scant hair, three prominent veins sticking out from the forehead - yoohoo!. My mother came back to reality with a huge jolt. My maternal Grandfather Velayutham read the astrology book and reassured my mother not to worry about my life.My paternal Grandfather Iyavoomurthi had already decided before my birth that my name would be Somasundaram.
the name Somasundaram; Soma relates to moon, and sundaram relates to sun, ie. balance of the opposites. So when I got really naughty I balanced it with being really good Ha! There are other meanings to the name - but more in later posts.
Early life was being part of the temple activities, and learning. As a young boy music came naturally and I started playing an instrument when my father left the instrument unattended. Dad was concerned that we may not concentrate on studies. Grandad asked Dad not to stop the music as the taste was already there. Incidentally the same pattern was seen with other family members , and throughout the lineage upwards and downwards.
As a teenager there were numerous spiritual experiences that occurred which led to meeting many spiritual people, further experiences and courses/workshops over decades. These will be touched upon during various posts, and events. The mind body festivals across various countries and workshops contributed to my understanding over the years. The substrate that I worked on and worked from was my strong family traditions in Saiva Siddhantam. I have also interacted with other spiritual/philosophies over the years, and am aware that these are means to an end and a point of departure.
Meditation and spiritual practice has always been entrenched in my life, and I look forward to interacting and expanding further.
I have played Carnatic (South Indian classical music) instruments, and am keen on the structure and spiritual benefits of the music system. My belief is that the music system and music is healing and we need to acquire knowledge as to how and when to utilise the music scales for maximum benefit. More about this later.
