Covid-19 - why now?

Man, animals and birds were here on earth for thousands of years, with eating options that are no different. Many are perplexed as to why this strain of corona viral infection has come around so forcefully now.

Gene sequencing, vaccine development and implementation is still some time away, behavioural scientists not reaching the needy. Our understanding of the virus and the magnitude of the effects of the infection has still not been realised.

Will we ever know the reality behind all of this? We may learn and get better in fighting these germs, and be better prepared for future such attacks. Am glad for that, and am happy to comply and do my bit to save us all.

We note that we are nearly 8 billion people on earth. Double that and our resources look pretty meek. Also with oceans swelling, earth spewing its red hot liquid, wind and rain playing their part we will experience other forms of disasters. Something has to change.

We are informed that we are in the Iron Age phase (Kali Yuga) with all these struggles and calamities. We are moving into a spiritual golden age where peace, abundance, and harmony exists. Greed, control, and material focus would be diminished. So we move from the gross to the subtle. Don't we now have that opportunity to reflect accordingly, and re-evaluate!.

What is changing right now? I used to work for 8 hours, travel for 3 hours every day, and sleep for 4-5 hours daily. Quality time with loved ones was reduced to about 2 hours a day. 6 hours were stolen with news, surfing, TV news/documentaries, and the odd chit chat.

With the covid warfare my life has moved to spending the bulk of my time with family, and getting my exercise in the garden (cheaper, safe and rewarding), and meditation and contemplation. This transition has not been difficult for any one of us at home. Even our school going child has been utilising time very effectively with exercise, education and spirituality (classical music and meditation). Can't help feeling that this is how it should be.

Human compassion outclasses passion, and we would always contribute to the well being of all creatures. My wish now is to focus more on working for well being and reduce ill being, ie increase compassion and reduce passion!
